Rheo3000 does not start - trouble shooting

  1. It’s recommended to Backup the three Rheo3000 data-bases first.
Via Menu->Configuration->Options->Database->”Backup current Databases” or if Rheo3000 not start and no custom tool like Microsoft SQL Management Studio can be used

    - stop SQL Server Service RheoDBInst
    - copy the RData/RTrail/RSystem *.mdf and *.ldf files manually from the folder like  “C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL10_50.RHEODBINST\MSSQL\DATA”,
    - at last restart SQL Server Service RheoDBInst

  2. Check whether the SQL Server Service is running
Open Windows Service Manager via Win+R and type in  services.msc
Check that the SQL Server RheoDBInst is running
  3. Check whether the operating system is up to date. Run Windows Update if needed.
  4. If Rheo3000 was updated before, probably a newer version of the Microsoft .NET Framework is needed.    Download .NET Framework 4.7
  5. Check whether PC name(or external SQL Server name) changed. Compare current name with "DBServer" name in the Rheo3000.exe.config.
    See PC-Rename-Problem
  6. Try to apply the last Rheo3000 update.
    See Current-Rheo3000-Update

SQL Server access problem because PC name changed

If the PC name or the name of a external SQL Server changed the Rheo3000 can not longer find its databases. To fix it follow theses steps:

  1. Find out current PC Name
    (press Win+R and type in:  msg * %COMPUTERNAME%  )
  2. Close all Application
  3. Backup Rheo3000.exe.config in installation folder C:\Program Files (x86)\Rheo3000\2.0.0
  4. Open the Rheo3000.exe.config in an Editor/Notepad (opened as Administrator)
  5. Look in the file for DBServer and replace the old PC-name
here my PC name is:  SKUEHNE
     <setting name="DBServer" serializeAs="String">
      <value>SKUEHNE\RHEODBINST</value>
     </setting>

  1. Save the file
  2. Restart the Rheo3000

Win10 Update 1803 + .NET 4.7.2 stop Rheo3000 working !

Attention:  After update of the .NET Framework 4.7.2 (since Release 461808) Rheo3000 stop working. It started with Win10 Update 1803 (Windows April Update) and later was updated on Win7 too.

Rheo3000 is still installed

  • Apply the Last Update to fix the problem on installed Rheo3000.
  • Another workaround is to roll-back/uninstall the windows update 1803.
Rheo3000 is not installed

  • Here you can download the updated Rheo3000 Installation files v2.1.1103 and start a new Installation
Rheo3000 installation aborted at last SQL Server installation step

  • After installation failed on last DB action, close Installation and other applications
  • Replace the DataManager.dll in the installation folder with that one (DataManager.dll)
  • run the Rheo3000 as Administrator again -> DB Setup should continue

USB Driver for Brookfield Thermostat

You can download the USB Driver for Brookfield Thermostats like the TC 550 here:

BrookfieldTC_USB_Driver_Setup.exe

The Rheo3000 application need for a remote control a COM Port. For the Brookfield Thermostats a COM port will be created during the driver installation.

Lauda Thermostat Pumplevel Configuration

EN: If you configure a Lauda pump level e.g. Level_0 which not exist in device, the previous configured pump level in the thermost keeps active for the experiment.

DE: Wenn in der Rheo3000 ein Lauda Pumplevel z.B. Level_0 gewählt wird, den das entsprechende Gerät nicht unterstützt, bleibt der im Thermostat voreingestellt Level erhalten für den Versuch.

General Communication Issues - Not found devices

If the software is not able to communicate to the device or thermostat it can have many reasons. Here I list some points which probably help.

  1. First check whether a COM port is available unter Windows device manager
under "Port(COM &LPT)" and without yellow exclamation mark.
    - Check cable connection
    - Search for newer driver

  2. Serial USB Adapter
The Adapters are often a problem source.
    - Update the driver (via Windows device manager)
    - Uninstall the driver, unplug the adapter, replug the adapter and install the driver again
    - Adapter using the FTDI work more stable !
Other types like "Profilic" had often problems in past.
If you want to play it safe order the adapters at Rheotec (sales@rheotec.de)

  3. Windows USB Port management
    - Try to use another USB port on PC
    - Change the port number on Windows device manager
